HireVue alternatives: five options to compare.

Updated 5 October 2026

Teams look for a HireVue alternative for many reasons, such as budget, format, languages or team size. This page lists five options, including AI Interview Agents, each described only from its own public site, so you can shortlist and then confirm details with the vendors.

Why do teams look for a HireVue alternative?

Most reasons are about fit. HireVue describes a broad platform with an AI Interviewer, on-demand and live video, and assessments. That range suits some programmes, and a narrower tool suits others.

  • Budget and buying process. HireVue's pricing page asks you to request a demo, and some teams want to see plans or start free before a sales call.
  • Interview format. Some teams want a spoken, two-way interview rather than recorded video answers or assessments.
  • Languages. Teams hiring in languages beyond those a vendor lists need to check coverage early.
  • Team size. Small teams and agencies often want to start without a long rollout.
  • Candidate channels. Some candidates answer on a phone, a messaging app or a browser link, and the format needs to match.

None of these reasons says HireVue is a poor choice. They are questions to settle before you pick a tool. For a direct comparison, see AI Interview Agents vs HireVue.

What does each option fit best?

AI Interview Agents fits teams that want a spoken, two-way first round with a transcript and a scored report, and that want to start on a free plan. It runs in English, Hindi or Arabic, and candidates join from a link sent by email or WhatsApp.

Alex AI fits teams that need several channels, including a plain phone call, and many languages. Its site also lists scheduling, identity checks and proctoring. See AI Interview Agents vs Alex AI.

HeyMilo and Ribbon both describe AI voice interviews. HeyMilo also lists video, SMS, forms and skill assessments. Ribbon publishes its plans. See AI Interview Agents vs HeyMilo and AI Interview Agents vs Ribbon.

Metaview's notetaker records and summarises interviews that people run, and it also lists a voice-based screening agent. See AI Interview Agents vs Metaview.

How should you choose?

Start with the job you need done, then narrow by language, channel and price. Our guide to comparing AI interview vendors has a longer checklist, and you can book a demo to see an AIIA interview and report.

  1. Write down the roles, the volume and the languages you need.
  2. Decide if the first round should be spoken, on video, by text, or a mix.
  3. Ask each vendor for a sample report and read how scores connect to what the candidate said.
  4. Compare how pricing is set: per seat, per interview or by volume.
  5. Run the same pilot role through two vendors and compare the reports.

What should you check in a pilot?

A pilot on one real role tells you more than any feature list. Pick a role with enough applicants to matter, and run the same job description through each tool you shortlist. Then read the outputs side by side with the people who will use them.

  • Read three full reports and check whether each score is explained by something the candidate actually said.
  • Ask a colleague to take the interview as a candidate, on a phone and on a laptop, and note any friction.
  • Check how invitations reach candidates, and whether reminders and rescheduling are handled.
  • Confirm who can see recordings and transcripts, and how long they are kept.
  • Ask what the tool does when a candidate speaks in a language or accent it handles less well.

Keep a person in charge of every hiring decision. Scores and reports are inputs for the hiring team, whichever tool you pick.
