Invited to an AI interview? Here is what to expect.

AI Interview Agents is the platform many employers use for first-round interviews. If you received an invitation link, this page explains what an interview by AI is, what happens during it, how it is scored and how to prepare.

What is an AI interview?

An AI interview is a spoken conversation with an AI interviewer instead of a person. You join from a link in your browser, the interviewer asks questions about the role out loud, listens to your answers and asks follow-up questions based on what you said. The employer receives a transcript and a scored report, and a person on the hiring team makes the decision.

What happens during an interview by AI

The questions come from the job description and the areas the employer wants covered, so expect to talk about your relevant experience and how you would handle real tasks in the role. If an answer is short or general, the interviewer asks for more. You can ask for a question to be repeated. Speak as you would on a call. There is no camera with a countdown, and you can take a moment to think before you answer.

Depending on the employer, the interview can run in English, Hindi, Arabic or Filipino. Afterwards the recruiter gets a transcript, an interview report, and a recording when one is available. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

How an AI interview is scored

Each answer is scored against a rubric built from the role. The score comes with written reasoning that points to what you said, so the recruiter reads your words, not only a number. Specific examples with a clear result score better than general claims. Accent and vocabulary are not what is being measured. The content of the answer is. Answer the question that was asked, use one real example per answer, and finish your sentences.

AI interview preparation

Read the job description and pick the two or three skills it leans on most. Prepare one true story for each. Then practise out loud, because a spoken answer is always different from the one in your head.

Just One Interview, our practice app, runs a spoken AI mock interview for the role you type and gives you a scored report that shows which answers were thin. It is free to start and runs in your browser.
