Screening bilingual Spanish and English customer support reps.

Updated 26 October 2026

Many applicants say they are bilingual, but a CV cannot show how someone speaks to an upset customer in Spanish. The fastest check is to hear it. Run a spoken first round in Spanish for the shortlist, read how each person handled real support situations, and keep your own calls for the final few.

Why is bilingual screening hard?

  • "Fluent in Spanish" on a CV can mean anything from a native speaker to two years of school classes.
  • Many recruiters cannot judge Spanish themselves, so the check falls to a colleague who has other work.
  • Support work needs both languages under pressure, not just in a friendly chat.
  • Bilingual support reps get several offers, so a slow process loses them.

How does the first round run?

AI Interview Agents runs interviews in 75 languages, including Spanish. Each role has one interview language. For a bilingual job, set up the role in the language that is harder to find, which is usually Spanish. English is easy to check in your own short call later.

  1. Set up the role in Spanish, with the job description and the support situations to cover.
  2. Upload the applications. Each CV is scored from 0 to 100 against the job.
  3. Invite everyone above your bar by email, or by WhatsApp if you turn it on.
  4. Candidates answer a spoken interview in Spanish in their browser, with follow-up questions based on their answers.
  5. Read the report, which has scores and written reasoning, plus the transcript and a recording when available.
  6. Call the best few in English. You now hear both languages before you send anyone to the client or the hiring manager.

What should the Spanish first round ask?

AreaExample questionWhat a strong answer shows
Upset customerA customer calls angry because a delivery is late. What do you say first?A calm opening, an apology and a next step, in natural Spanish.
Explaining clearlyExplain to me how to reset a password, as if I had never done it.Short, ordered steps in plain words.
Saying noA customer asks for a refund the rules do not allow. What do you tell them?A clear no with the reason and an alternative.
AccuracyHow do you make sure you record a customer's details correctly?A habit, such as reading details back.

What do you review?

If you do not speak Spanish, the report still tells you how the candidate handled each situation. You can play the recording to a Spanish speaking colleague, who only needs a few minutes per person instead of a full call. Open the sample report to see the format.

What does it cost?

A 15 minute interview is one credit. Pro is 99 dollars a month for 200 interview credits and 5 seats, and the free plan has 10 interview credits a month to try it first. See pricing and the full list of interview languages.

Where does it not fit?

If the job needs written Spanish, such as email or chat support, add a short writing task. A spoken interview does not test spelling or grammar on the page. The report also does not give a formal language grade. It shows how the person handled support situations in that language.
